As a powerful and limpid cry from the bloated chest of the Naples of the third millenium, the music of this 9 track record burst in as a modern and necessary expression of a journey through the ancient and richest tradition of a city wich is too often told of in the light of its most superficial folklore.

Being born and raised in Naples for the artists involved in this work, in particular Salvio Vassallo, musician, composer and producer who has led and strongly supported this journey, means to necessarily confront with the dense history that continuosly and literally transpires in the alleys of the city and from the grounds as a misterious belly of an underground history wich exists and resists.

To resist. And to exist. Between the legacy of tradition and the urgency of modernity. Between fire and water. Between the worldwide image of itself and its real essence.

All these extremes are in this work, and the voices and rhythms break through them as in a musical and carnal embrace, drawing the last part of an arc that has its historical origins in the thirteenth century songs and goes on though the centuries, influences and foreign dominations.
A Music that narrates and repurposes traditional songs, a journey that becomes a modern tale without falling into the easy lure of folklore, but reconsidering it as a son returning to the womb that bore it.
Indeed, the sounds are often extreme with electronics warm as volcanic material and sharp as a surgical laser that breaks down rhythm at its roots, and offers it as an essence and beat distilled of the story, again
present, always a magnet for the thread of attention and listening .And the voices of the talented Valentina Gaudini, feature evocative presences and ghosts of flesh and blood, which are pure sounds of the theater, pantomime (Canzone della zingara), the frenzied dances in a trance (Il coro delle lavandaie), lullabies (Buonanotte) as the echo of war, violence, epidemics (O’ Guarracino) as miracles, death and life (Michelemmà), love and sex (So le Sorbe e le Nespole).
A journey in music for those who are not fond of the crystallized image of Naples , as a postcard or crime city.
A music and deep sensuality thirsting for those who want to quit
to experience a unique city, that has still got much to tell her children through the work of artists.
